Day 64 and Day 63- Accept Gratitude
Posted on April 06 2017
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with this "Accept Gratitude-Graciously" and I knew it would be my post for today- as well as a new art quote I think.
Hmmm....so as I was trying to go back to sleep I was thinking about this. Why is it so hard sometimes when someone thanks us for something we find it hard to just say, "you're welcome"? Instead I know a lot of us- me included, say things like:
"Not needed, no biggie"
As I was thinking about this I realized what TERRIBLE things to say to someone who is thanking us for whatever it was we did or said, because all those things- whichever way you say it makes it sound like that THING you did was insignificant. It probably wasn't insignificant to the person you did it for, as a matter of fact it may have been a REALLY BIG DEAL and when you think of it that way, you are belittling them- this horrifies me to think about how many times I have said those things- without even thinking how it might be sounding to the person thanking me.
We get so used to saying the same things over and over, that we don't even think about how they sound and that can have a profound effect on others. I know my mouth runs as quantum speed sometimes and my brain isn't even in gear yet- so for all the stupid things I have said- I apologize!
From now on when I do something for someone and they say "thank you", I am going to say "you're welcome, I am so happy I could help". No self deprecation, no smart ass remarks, no witty sarcasm, just "YOU'RE WELCOME" and accept gratitude- graciously.
And for those people that you do stuff for that don't thank you.....well....(I am dying to say something really smart ass here)......I think you should just silently practice saying "you're welcome", as if they thanked you anyway- that's better for your soul and your attitude.
Now, THANK YOU for reading this. THANK YOU for your encouragement. THANK YOU for being my friend. THANK YOU for pushing me (kids). THANK YOU for believing in me. THANK YOU for telling me you love my art. THANK YOU for buying me art. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
Now, it's your turn to say..........
